MATERIALS TESTING
As part of the construction phase of a site development project, it is of the utmost importance to determine the quality of the materials being used.
In order to determine the qualities of the materials used or being used, GC&T performs:
Field & laboratory soil testing
Concrete, asphalt & steel reinforcing testing
These tests are performed using modern materials testing laboratories according to the latest industry standards and regulations.
Our laboratory work concentrates on testing and analysis of the properties and performance behavior of soils and concrete utilizing established ASTM standards.
| Our laboratory, located in Dulles, Virginia, is accredited by WACEL and inspected by the AMRL and CCRL. Analyses are conducted in conformance with ASTM and other applicable standards and specifications, and the results are verified through a rigorous quality assurance program.
All our lab technician personnel are trained, certified, updated and tested periodically in their respected field of operation and applicable test methods. Our equipment is maintained and calibrated regularly to ensure accuracy. |
 |
All of our test results are reviewed and approved by our Laboratory Manager, and then the appropriate Project Manager, prior to acceptance. Calibration records are maintained for the required instrumentation and are conducted by independent sources, in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Specific test procedures are performed in accordance with AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, EPA,
DDOT, MDOT and VDOT standards.
Our laboratory has acquired an extensive experience in the soils, concrete and asphalt testing:
Soils – The soil testing process starts with a careful sampling of the materials to be tested. In order to determine the suitability of the soils, our laboratory performs tests such as:
Moisture-Density relationship
(ASTM D-698, VTM-1).
Atterberg limits (ASTM D-4318).
Sieve analysis (ASTM D-422).
Soil classification (ASTM D-2487).
Compressive strength tests (ASTM C-39).
CBR tests (VTM-8).
Hydrometer testing.
Peak strength direct shear test.
Residual direct shear test.
Expansion and index test .
Organic content test.
Eads and Grim pH test.
Concrete - Our concrete services include complete inspection of concrete batching equipment, trucks and curing procedures. We verify compliance by utilizing procedures and specifications recommended by American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Our services include:
Sampling concrete for air content
Slump
Air Entrainment
