Description

The project is located in the City of Alexandria and consists of a 72,000 s.f. 1-story, 46-foot high, warehouse building with refrigeration/freezer unit.  The site consisted of 3 warehouse buildings that were demolished. 

Project Highlights

GC&T provided a full array of services for the project including:

 

(i)           Performed a subsurface investigation and prepared final Geotechnical Report addressing recommendations for foundations on stone columns through existing fill material and organic layers.  Provided recommendations for slab-on-grade and asphalt pavement on high plasticity soils and existing fill material.

 

(ii)        Performed consolidation load test with settlement plates at the site to evaluate layers of soft clay and organic material.

 

(iii)        Performed expansion index testing on high plasticity clay samples to reduce the amount of undercut for the large parking lot.

 

(iv)              Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services that included field and laboratory soils and concrete testing during construction; floor flatness for slab on grade and inspection of Geopier installation.

 

(iv)          Structural Steel inspection that included inspection of the sufficient number of bolted connections; visual inspection of field-applied welds and field erection of steel frame for plumbness and level.
