Description

The school building is located on 40 acres in Dumfries, Virginia.  The project consists of a 188,000 gross square foot building with reinforced concrete footings and a structural steel frame for all four levels.  Retaining walls and a stormwater management pond were also constructed.

 

This state-of-the-art facility includes wireless Internet access, video-conferencing, football, soccer, and baseball fields, eight modern science labs, collegiate-style library, bistro seating in the food-court-style cafeteria, two gyms with varsity and junior varsity locker rooms, and a chapel that serves as the architectural and spiritual center of the school.

Project Highlights

GC&T provided a full array of services for the project including:

 

(i)             Engineering services during the design stage that included the preparation of a Geotechnical Engineering report;

 

(ii)        Subsurface investigation and laboratory testing to determine existing site conditions;

 

(iii)         Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services that included field and laboratory soils and concrete testing during construction and structural steel inspection that included inspection of the sufficient number of bolted connections, visual inspection of field welds and field erection of steel frames for plumbness and level.
